Our Kids Need Your Help!

There are over 600 children in the Edmonds School District that are considered homeless and part of the McKinney-Vento Education of Homeless Children and Youth Assistance Act. These children may live in shelters, tents, cars, transitional housing or other temporary housing.

Motel Voucher Donations

The emergency motel fund is designed to provide families in domestic violence or catastrophic situations, a one week stay in a local motel room.  Our hope is this week will give them a safe place to stay while connecting with state organizations and transitional housing.

Families chosen must have children that attend school in the Edmonds School District, are enrolled in the transitional housing program and are recommended by the Edmonds School District homeless liaison.

We accept cash donations for our motel voucher program.  Families are given a one week voucher.  Families must be enrolled in the transition program through the Edmonds School district office and receive a recommendation of assistance through the onsite homeless liaison.

Emergency Supply Donations

There are several schools in the district that either do not have an emergency supply closets, or it is severely under-stocked. We are collecting donations to fill as many supply closets as possible. We will update this list as the varied needs of different schools arise.

  • 3 bags  food. The idea behind this bag is if a family comes into the office and says they do not have anything to eat. This bag will help sustain them until they can receive help from the local food banks or state agencies.
  • Individually wrapped snack foods. These foods will be handed out on an individual basis to students who stay late for extra tutoring, play on sports teams, etc… the McKinney Vento busses sometimes do not pick up these students until after 4:30pm.
  • T shirts, socks, underwear.
  • Hygiene items: Toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, sanitary supplies.
  • Extra school supplies: Paper, pencils, pens, calculators… items that normally would have to come out of the teachers own pockets.
  • Transportation vouchers

Many times individual requests come in. For example,  Meadowdale  High School asked for jeans size 32-30  for a young man that had only one pair. Drop off locations are listed below.
